As an Austin native, Kay Killen brings a diverse background of experience in trade association management, government and corporate relations to MPRI.

Killen's work as a Texas archeologist, offered interfacing with state and federal agencies through site excavations, while writing and producing professional reports as roadmaps for future investigations. She coordinated a task force charged with developing professional Ethics and Standards submitted to the Council of Texas Archaeologists. Killen worked for the Texas Historical Commission, Panhandle Plains Museum, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Highway Department, Texas Archeological Research Laboratory at the J.J. Pickle Research Center and Texas A& M University.

Killen has worked for Texas trade associations as convention director for American Society of Interior Designers, Professional Insurance Agents of Texas and acting executive director for Texas Association for Competitive Transportation, where she not only interfaced with the Texas Legislature and the Railroad Commission of Texas, it also took her to Washington, D.C., working at the Interstate Commerce Commission for the Vice Chairman.

Additionally, Killen has worked with top executives in the research and development departments of high-tech companies in Austin including IBM, SEMATECH and Freescale.

Developing marketing and promotional material for trade associations and private industry as well as neighborhood projects, Killen brings a broad range of experience and an extensive background in community relations and outreach.

Killen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin and is active in the Barton Hills Neighborhood. She started her business, The Hat Society in 1995 to promote hat wearing for men and women, writing a monthly e-newsletter, lecturing at the University of Texas Informal Classes, and traveling internationally as a lecturer. She is a member of Riverbend Church, sings alto in the chorale and teaches preschool classes.
